Residents of south Mumbai are looking to be of whatever help they can be to their brethren in Kerala. A number of people are either looking to send food and clothes or money or still looking to contribute in a big way.

"We decided to send some food items to Kerala considering the situation there is bad. I have given over five kgs of dal, rice and sugar," said Kamal Khatri, resident of Mumbai Central. Khatri is sending all of this through Food Army, an organisation that looks to send help in states that have seen calamity or disaster.

While Khatri decided to send food items, Mahendra Hemdev, resident of Marine Drive has decided to send some clothes, utensils and even money. "I think they need all of this there. They have lost out on a lot of things and I look to send all of this through some authentic body so that I am sure that it reaches them," said Hemdev adding that many messages were floating which asked citizens to do thorough check before handing over the help.

While Hemdev is still looking for a proper channel, some residents have already tried to locate people they know through which they can send the help. "I am looking to help in some permanent way. If I can take care of a school even if it needs me to spend Rs 5 lakh or more, I am willing for that. Since I am in Rotary, I am already in talks with people I know there so that I can take up some similar thing," said Padmakar Nandekar, resident of Cuffe Parade.

He added, "Even in our Cuffe Parade Resdients Association, we have asked people to send money directly to the Prime Minister's Relief Fund. This time too, like we did in case of Uttarakhand disaster, we look to give Rs 9 lakh or so."
