South Mumbai MLA Raj Purohit assures redevelopment solution in '15 days'

Purohit was referring to the several issues that residents of south Mumbai face when up against redevelopment authorities like Defence NOC, Heritage NOC and CRZ permits.

After waiting several years for redevelopment alongside facing the usual hurdles that surround infrastructure, the residents of Colaba, Fort and Marine Drive can expect some good news as Raj Purohit, MLA of South Mumbai has assured them of a solution in the coming 15 days.

Speaking on Zee 24 Taas, Purohit claimed, "I will meet BMC commissioner, communicate with state authorities and give a solution in 15 days." He was referring to the several issues that residents of south Mumbai face when up against redevelopment authorities like Defence NOC, Heritage NOC and CRZ permits. To make matters worse, the old buildings are in a dilapidated state with no parking, narrow lanes, old water pipelines that need immediate attention.

Meanwhile, Pandurang Sakpal, Shiv Sena's zonal head for south Mumbai said, "We can understand the residents' issues, but this problem needs better communication between political parties and the administration. The heritage component is related to both the state and central government."

Shashi Prabhu, an eminent architect noted, "The buildings on Marine Drive are built in the art deco style. One can say that heritage should be preserved, but what happens after 20-30 years when these buildings get dilapidated and collapse? These buildings need redevelopment."
