Admitting that the loan waiver is going to be a big burden on the financial health of the state, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Tuesday said, `Abhalach Faatlay, pan amhi te Shivnyaat Yashaswi Hou' (sky is falling but we will hold it up).

A group of 35 farmers including those from Puntamba in Ahmednagar and 40 villages from adjoining Marathwada region met Chief Minister Fadnavis at Sahyadri Guest House in Mumbai to felicitate him for his decision of loan waiver for the farmers. Revenue and rehabilitation minister Chandrakant Patil, Minister for skill development Sambhaji Nilangekar-Patil and MLA Prashant Bamb were present.

Addressing the farmers Chief Minister Fadnavis said that the state treasury would surely be burdened with the loan waiver decision but state Government has decided to bare it. He said that state Government would raise the money for ongoing development projects by innovative ways instead of going for loans for the same.

Fadnavis told farmers that if the state government did not want to give a loan waiver, it could have cited hundreds of reasons for the same, but since his government was in favor of it, it has arrived at this decision. Fadnavis told the farmers that Maharashtra loan waiver was unique since it has also provided relief to those who are repaying the loans regularly which has not happened in other states.
