According to the police, the incident took place between May 2 and May 3 on the second floor residence of complainant Ramesh Kumar Jain at Chiranjeev building on Sarojini Road in Santa Cruz (W).

Santa Cruz police are on the lookout for an unknown person after it was brought to their notice that valuables worth Rs57.63 lakh were looted from the residence of a businessman (67). The businessman had gone for a pilgrimage with his family last weekend, when the theft occurred.
According to the police, the incident took place between May 2 and May 3 on the second floor residence of complainant Ramesh Kumar Jain at Chiranjeev building on Sarojini Road in Santa Cruz (W).
An officer with Santa Cruz police said that the thief took advantage of no one being present at home, saying: "Jain and his family had gone to Dhule, which is when the thief managed to enter the residence by breaking-in. S/he decamped with gold, silver and diamond studded ornaments, and watches worth Rs 57.63 lakh kept in the bedroom."
On returning home Jain, learnt about the theft and reported the matter to the police.
"The thief was aware that the family would be away from the city on the weekend. We are investigating whether someone known to the family could be involved," said another officer.
