Sanjeev Khanna has confessed, says top cop Rakesh Maria after grilling accused trio

"In the Kolkata court, Khanna admitted to being in the car, but claimed that he was asleep when she was killed. This clearly is a fabricated story and we wanted to take him to the crime scene to know more about the way the body was disposed of."

Late on Friday evening, all the three accused and brother of deceased Sheena Bora were brought to the Khar police station, where Mumbai police commissioner Rakesh Maria himself interrogated them. The three accused arrested so far are media honcho Indrani Mukerjea, her ex-husband Sanjeev Khanna and driver Shyamvar Rai in the 2012 Sheen Bora murder case. Maria said Khanna has confessed to his role in the crime.

The probe gathered momentum on Friday after the Mumbai police brought the third accused, Khanna, from Kolkata. "There are a number of things that we need to corroborate from Khanna, the most important being the reason behind him getting involved in Bora's murder, that too for his ex-wife," said an officer privy to the investigation.

"In the Kolkata court, Khanna admitted to being in the car, but claimed that he was asleep when she was killed. This clearly is a fabricated story and we wanted to take him to the crime scene to know more about the way the body was disposed of."

By afternoon, Sheena's brother Mikhail too joined the probe. He was brought from Guwahati on Friday afternoon by the Mumbai police. After the Mumbai police arrested Indrani, Mikhail had claimed that he knew the real reason behind the murder. He had also said there were a number of documents with him which could punch holes in Indrani's claim that Sheena and he were her siblings.

"Mikhail became important for the investigation because of his claims that he knew a lot about the relation between Sheena, him and Indrani. We also wanted to quiz him why he did not came forward and register a complaint after his sister went incommunicado three years ago, blindly believing Indrani despite knowing that she has never accepted them as her children in public."

The probe took an unexpected turn later in the evening when, for the first time, media baron Peter Mukerjea arrived at Khar police station with his lawyers. Mukerjea till now has been kept out of the investigation by the Mumbai police. He has, from the first day of the case, been claiming that he was not aware that Sheena was Indrani's daughter and not sister. According to sources, the Mumbai police had summoned Peter to record his statement in the case. However, he was seen walking out of the police station within 10 minutes after his arrival.

Maria said, "We have found Sheena's skeletal remains from the spot her body was dumped in. We interrogated Khanna, who has accepted his role in the murder; further investigation is on. We have also got some important leads from Mikhail, we are working on them."
