As twitter handles rolled out the news about actor Salman Khan being called to court around 11.45am, advocates and court staff and even litigants who had come to attend their proceedings started dropping by in room no 43, where Justice A R Joshi was to pronounce the judgment in the 2002 hit-and-run case.

The police increased their bandobast – a platoon of Rapid Action Force (RAF) was summoned to the court, while cops from the Azad Nagar stations manned the court premises with their batons. As Khan entered the court room, lawyers, litigants, court staff and numerous onlookers rushed in to get a glimpse of the star.

Prosecutor Poornima Kantharia kept shouting that mobile phones were not allowed inside the court room but the crowd paid no heed. Policemen also yelled at several who had their phones in the air and confiscated a few but the presence of Khan ensured that the court room swelled with people.

Around 1.45pm, soon after the judgment was pronounced and Justice Joshi left the court, the staffers rushed in on his dais and took turns to see Khan, who was sitting with his family members, waiting for the bail formalities to be completed. Until 4.30 pm, when he finally left the court premises, staffers and advocates kept rushed in to see him.

Arvind Bhasin, a litigant who had come from Karjat to attend to his court proceedings in an adjoining court room, also rushed in to see Khan. When asked about the purpose of his visit, he replied, "I was told Khan was in the neighbouring court. My daughter is a fan of him, so I thought I would take a picture of him for her."

As time passed, policemen got tired and sat on chairs, while the crowd took their seats as well. Many were expecting that the actor would stand up and wave at them. But a stoic Khan refused to look at any of them. Policemen were also seen being reprimanded by seniors as they kept staring at Khan instead of attending to their duties.

Around 4.30pm, after sitting for nearly 3 hours in the court room, Khan proceeded to the registrar's office in the high court annexe building. Onlookers stood guard with phones in their hands and cameras on.
