Sharad Pawar-led Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) on Friday set at rest speculation about any talks of alliance with Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) in Maharashtra for the ensuing Lok Sabha election. The NCP said that it won't truck with the MNS in view of the serious ideological differences.

NCP's clarification comes close on the heels of its ongoing talks with the Congress party to forge a front to take on the BJP in the coming Lok Sabha election. Besides, NCP also made it clear that it will not have any tie up with Shiv Sena which, despite being BJP's ruling partner in the state, is stepping up attack against the BJP-led governments at the Centre as well as the state.

NCP spokesman Nawab Malik told DNA, "The party will neither associate with the MNS nor with Shiv Sena in the Lok Sabha election due to serious differences over their style of functioning." He, however, reiterated that the NCP and Congress are currently engaged in talks to reach seat sharing with the inclusion of secular and like minded parties against the BJP.

Malik's statement comes close on the heels of recent meetings between Pawar and MNS chief and their travel from Aurangabad to Mumbai in a same service plane on Thursday. Raj Thackeray had recently interviewed Pawar in Pune which led to speculation of a 'possible tacit political understanding' between the two parties.

MNS spokesman Sandeep Deshpande said that his party had learnt about both NCP's desire to strike alliance with the MNS and NCP's clarification about no tie up with MNS from media reports. "There was no formal talk yet. However, the party is gearing up for election,'' he noted.

Pawar in a TV talk show two days ago had said there was no proposal to strike a seat sharing deal with the MNS. Instead, he suggested that it is better for Maharashtra if parties like the Shiv Sena and MNS contest separately.

The Congress party has already strongly opposed to the inclusion of MNS in the anti-BJP front. Mumbai Regional Congress Committee president Sanjay Nirupam had said that the Congress party cannot join hands with MNS which he alleged believes in threatening people and creating chaos.
