The road widening work around Bombay Hospital near Churchgate is in its last stage and is likely to be complete by the end of April.

Kiran Dighavkar, assistant commissioner of A ward said that they are expecting to start the road for the public by the end of this month. "The height of the well that is coming along the road will be brought down to road level and work of footpath will also be completed," said Dighavkar.

In order to help motorists, especially vehicles carrying patients, reach Bombay Hospital without any delays, the artery road work was proposed in 1967 but could not be taken up due to various reasons including a well that stood along the road which delayed the project.

At present, there is a one-way lane which will be converted into two-lane. "Motorists facing traffic snarls while going to the hospital via an alternate route wastes at least 15 minutes during the golden hour," said Dighavkar. Currently, the only route available to patients is via Vitthaldas Thackeray Marg.

The Bombay Hospital Lane, which is approximately 210 meters long, and connects to MG Road, will shorten travel time during the golden hour for patients. The decision to widen the road was taken after Vijay Singhal, the additional municipal commissioner, visited the area. The road is 12.30-metre-wide and will be increased to 21.34 metre approximately.
