Returning awards has become a trend: Chetan Bhagat

Terming the returning of awards (Puraskar Wapsi) has become a trend, noted writer Chetan Bhagat on Monday said that he never wrote for an award, but writes whatever he feels is right based on happenings around our daily life.

The public interview with Bhagat — who is referred as writer of the youth — evoked huge response on the final day of the 89th All India Marathi Literary meet.

Bhagat initially uttered two sentences in Marathi and later gave the interview in Hindi. The interview conducted by Chetan Joshi was attended by school and college students in large numbers.

Talking to the students, Bhagat asked them to be prepared for receiving slaps from life and continue the quest with a positive attitude.

Replying to a question, he said that titles of all his novels always has a number (Five Point Someone, Two States etc.) because he is an engineer. He explained that if a girlfriend is something more than just a girlfriend, he has used the term half girlfriend.

Narrating his experience during the controversy after the movie 3 Idiots, he said that since he was new, he was shocked with the experience and wrote it on his blog. He said that since Bollywood films have been made on each of his novels, he has understood that it generally happens with the writers in this industry. He advised the youngsters to be prepared for such bitter and unfortunate experiences which would enrich them in life.

Bhagat also revealed that most of the main characters in his novels have names which are Lord Krishna's names.
