The residents of Thane have decided to hold a one-minute blackout before the holi pyre is lit on Thursday to mark the unprecedented transfer of Thane Municipal Corporation's chief, Sanjeev Jaiswal.
In a meeting held on Sunday under the aegis of the Thane Citizen's Forum (TCF), the residents took the decision with the hope that their one-minute silence before Holi celebrations begin at housing societies and market areas would stop the transfer of their favoured civic chief.
"On the auspicious occasion, before the Holi pyre is lit marking the victory of good over evil, we request all housing societies, business establishments, markets, corporate houses to switch off the lights for a minute," said Kasber Augustine, the president of TCF.
"This is to show your solidarity towards Mr Sanjeev Jaiswal and request him to join back office and finish his work which he had started for the welfare of Thane citizens," he added.
Last week, Sanjeev Jaiswal had sought a transfer as he alleged that the BJP's constant attempts to defame him led to the decision. Despite doing progressive work in the city, he alleged that he was tired of continual defamatory action by BJP corporators.
However, the residents of Thane were unhappy by Jaiswal's announcement. The TCF said that the blackout on Holi will send a strong message to those who defame the likes of Jaiswal.
"The tireless exertions and passionate work of individuals like Jaiswal need to be respected and not condemned," said Augustine.
Additionally, the TCF has also asked residents to organise a candle march in their respective societies after the blackout on Holi.
