Relief refused to student who claimed ‘glitch in JEE system’

The Bombay High Court on Wednesday refused to grant interim relief to a student who appeared for the JEE (Main) last month. The student, Rigved Deglukar, claimed that due to a technical glitch in the computer assigned to him, his results showed that he left 35 questions blank, instead of only five (as per his claim). He moved the High Court seeking direction to the CBSE board to allow him to appear for the JEE (Advance) Engineering exams, scheduled next week.

A Holiday Bench of Justice AS Gadkari and Justice CV Bhadang refused to grant him interim relief after the CBSE informed the court that there were no discrepancies in its results. Further hearing on the matter will be held on June 2.

According to the petition, in April, when Deglukar appeared for the exams, the computer assigned to him had a malfunction. He had called the in-charge who summoned the technical staff to examine the device. After examining it, Deglukar was asked to continue with the online test.

When he finally submitted his answer sheet, it displayed that he had attempted 85 questions and left five blank. However, when the response sheet was received, it showed that he had attempted only 55 questions. Deglukar wrote to the authorities immediately, highlighting the fault in the system, but to no avail.
