All year round, we complain about how the city of Mumbai has gone to the dogs. We wake up to news about crime, illegal buildings, poorly maintained infrastructure, potholed roads, illegal hawkers, badly managed heritage sites and the list goes on.

But this being the first edition of 2015, dna westcoast decided to begin on a positive note. We visited the BMC wards in the western suburbs and combed out the good officers who have been silently working hard. After much scrutiny of the suburban BMC wards, dna westcoast declares two officers of the P/North ward as the shining stars.

Apart from his day-to-day work, Mhaske has been working around the clock on many special projects. He has been a part of this ward since 2010 and has taken up several responsibilities. He is popular for his sincerity and honesty.

The recent projects for which Mhaske needs to be applauded are the arrangements that he planned for the immersion of Ganesha idols in Malad and for being a brilliant Nodal Officer for the 'one window cell' for the Lok Sabha elections and the Vidhan Sabha elections.

Mhaske shares, "I enjoy my work so I take the extra effort to do all that has been asked of me. Another big reason why I am able to deliver great results and work fearlessly is because of Devendra Jain, the Assistant Municipal Commissioner of the ward. He motivates us for the work we undertake."

Jain holds the reputation of being a 'cool' boss as he regularly communicates with his team and discusses work problems on a daily basis. Here, Jain shares his opinion about Mhaske, "Ravi (Mhaske) has single-handedly managed the election duties, despite palpable pressure from various political parties. His job during the course of both elections comprised giving permissions for rallies, prachar feris and similar activities. He is a forthcoming, genuine and a highly proactive officer."

Khokale is a dynamic officer working in P/North ward for last three years. Although he is quite young, he has been handling the show with grace. Khokale has taken charge of the issues related to dilapidated buildings of the ward, which Malad has plenty of. His work includes meeting up with the tenants of such buildings to make them understand the need to bring down the decrepit buildings; he often needs to pacify distressed residents as well.

Jain, in sharing his opinion on the work record of Khokale, says, "He is very active in his work and has so far demolished 35 dilapidated buildings, which is a record in itself. During this process, he had to go to the court several times because a few tenants weren't happy with the decision to demolish their buildings. Despite this inconvenience, Khokale convinced the court that the safety of the people was at stake and that the demolition of the buildings was the need of the hour."

Devendra Jain, while speaking about his ward, concludes, "I feel that everybody in the ward is really great at their work. They also ensure that they are available 24x7 and always forthcoming for any kind of work. Apart from Khokale and Mhaske, I would also like to add these officers to the stars of the ward list: Ganpat Ramchandra Chache (mali), Nitin Dilip Jhadhav (clerk), Dhondiba Rama Yamgar (labourer). This is a hardworking lot and all that they need is motivation."
