Veteran television and film actor Mukesh Rawal, 66, best known for his role of Vibhishan in Ramanand Sagar's Ramayan, died after being hit by a speeding train on Tuesday morning.

Rawal's body was found on the tracks between Kandivli and Borivli railway stations, and his family identified the body on Wednesday. The Government Railway Police (GRP) has registered an accidental death report in the matter, and his family has ruled out any possibility that he may have committed suicide.

A Kandivli resident, Rawal was hit by a train around 9.30 am. When his body was found, Kandivali railway station's station master Yogesh Nikale served a memo to the GRP to get a post mortem conducted at a hospital. The police registered an accidental death report at Borivli railway police station. Later, Rawal's son-in-law Jayesh Barbhaiya identified the body.

Nikale said, "We reported the incident of a person being hit, and the body was later taken to the hospital for further legal procedures."

"A day after the incident, Barbhaiya, in a bid to locate Rawal approached us, and we showed him the photograph of the person found dead on tracks, after which identity of the deceased was learnt," said a GRP officer.

"Rawal's body has been given to his daughter. Prima facie it seems to be a case of accident as none of the family members raised suspicion about the incident," said Deepak Devraj, DCP, GRP.

Borivali GRP Inspector, Sanjeev Pimple, said, "We will speak to the family members to ascertain if Rawal had any problems, and are investigating further."
