Rains create 141 craters on Mumbai roads

After massive rains hit the city on Sunday night, nearly 47 craters came up on city roads, taking the number to 141 since June 1.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is yet to fill up 65 craters, as per the data available on the civic body's pothole tracking website (www.voiceofcitizen.com). The highest number of potholes was reported in western suburbs in H-West ward, covering Bandra west and Santa Cruz. The number stands at 30.

The BMC has allocated Rs14 crore for pothole repair work, which is 50% less than the amount set aside last year.

The rains also brought with it complaints about water-logging from the low-lying Hindmata and surrounding areas of the city. As many as 31 tree fall complaints were registered across the city on Saturday, which left two injured.

Tree fall incidents:
Island city: 14
Eastern suburbs: 5
Western suburbs: 12
