After reeling under heatwave for the past few days, many heaved a sigh of relief after rains and thunder struck some parts of the state on Tuesday and Wednesday morning.
Several areas including Vidarbha, Nagpur (43 degree Celsius), Chandrapur (43.6 degree Celsius) and others saw temperatures dropping by almost two to four degree Celsius thus providing some relief. In fact, known for their unbearable summer, Wardha (42.0degree Celsius), Yavatmal (38.0degree Celsius), Akola (43.7degree Celsius) and other places too saw some relief.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued heatwave warning for the next four days.
Temperatures could rise once it stops raining. “It’s the cloudy cover and rains that brought some relief, but a majority of the places in this belt are still witnessing the usual heat (43 deg C).
“Several pockets are still seeing high temperatures and heatwave like conditions,” said an IMD official.
Meanwhile, Skymet a private weather forecasting agency stated on its portal that pre-Monsoon activities continue over Konkan, South Madhya Maharashtra and in isolated pockets of Vidarbha and Marathwada.
“However, the intensity of these spells would be very light. The sky would be partly cloudy to cloudy at different intervals, bringing marginal relief from the temperatures,” it stated.
The forecast is that it would rain around May 28-29 over most parts of Marathwada, South Madhya Maharashtra and Konkan, including Mumbai.
