A 27-year-old professor of a Goregaon-based college was arrested after a 19-year-old student lodged a complaint against him with the Goregaon police of inappropriate behaviour and criminal intimidation.

The incident took place two weeks ago. The accused, Ankit Agarwal, a professor in Lords Universal College, allegedly told the girl that he loved her, said the police.

Following this, he started sending her SMS and kept calling her.

"He sent her a text saying if she doesn't reciprocate his love, he would see that she failed in the exams. After this, on Wednesday, the girl approached the police," said Sunil Vadke, senior PI of Goregaon police.
Ankit Agarwal teaches Accountancy in the college. The victim is a degree student of the college (night classes).

Following the complaint, a case was registered under sections 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) and 506 (criminal intimidation) under the Indian Penal Code. Agarwal was arrested and later let out on bail.

"We have not received any other complaints against him from the college. We are making inquiring with the college authorities," added Vadke.
