After MSEDCL, Reliance Infra also has proposed a hike of 10-15% in power tariff for its 29.12 lakh consumers in Mumbai from April. A petition in this regard has been submitted to MERC, the appellate authority, which will take a call on it after six weeks.
A spokesperson from the company said the firm has not made any changes in the fixed component of the tariff. However, 5-35% increase in energy charges and 20% increase in wheeling charges will lead to an overall increase of 10-15% in the bills, depending upon the slab.
Mahavitaran, on the other hand, which has proposed a 4-31% hike in tariff from April, has offered consumers relief, but just for a month. The tariff for domestic consumers will be a little less in March — Rs3.65 instead of Rs4.16 per unit for 0 to 100 slab. For 101 to 300 units slab, it would be Rs6.54 instead of Rs7.39.
Tariff for commercial consumers too will be less by 92-162 paise per unit. Express feeder tariff will reduced from Rs8.59 to Rs7.59 per unit and non-express tariff from Rs7.82 to Rs6.88.
A Mahavitaran official said, "As period of recovery of Mahagenco claims and interim relief is over, these charges will not be applicable to consumers in March."
