Home Minister RR Patil on Tuesday stated that action would be taken against public representatives, if they were found supporting the operation of dance bars.

Responding to a discussion in the Legislative Council on law and order situation in the state, Patil said the Home department has taken action against 211 Police officials after dance bars were found to be operating in their jurisdiction.

The Home Minister asserted that various kinds of action was taken against the police officials. Some were denied promotion while many others were are reprimanded.

He also claimed that Maharashtra is one of the safest state in the country. "Naxalism has come down in the state and foreign investment has also gone up. Students are coming to study here that means the state is safe," Patil pointed out.

Referring to recent incidents involving policemen,"They work for more than 14 hours a day and that leads to changes in their mental condition and they need to be taken care of."

He also stressed that there is need for proper training and the state needs to increase the number of policemen. He also questioned the lack of funds for these purposes.

Patil has noticed that the fight between the police and the politicians have unnecessarily been dragged for so long.

He took a dig at the MNS and said, "Those who expressed support for the policemen after the Azad Maidan riots were the same people, who beat up Suryavanshi.  Just like one Suryavanshi does not make up for the entire Police force, similarly one or two MLAs who beat up Suryavanshi do not make up for all the public representatives in the state."
