Police suspect robbery behind gruesome murder of two engineering students in Lonavala

According to the police, the female victim's face was smashed and the police could not found the mobile phones of the deceased. pointing that the assailant might be robbers. However, they found purse of the woman.

The Lonavala police, who are investigating the murder case of two engineering college students whose bodies were found naked and bludgeoned near the forest area of Bhushi dam near Mumbai on Monday afternoon, has launched a hunt for the assailants and is awaiting the post-morterm report of the deceased to ascertain if they were sexually assaulted.

According to the police, the female victim's face was smashed and the police could not found the mobile phones of the deceased. pointing that the assailant might be robbers. However, they found purse of the woman.

"We have started the investigation from all the angles like personal rivalry, stray attack or robbery. There is also possibilities of sexual assault but we are awaiting the postmorterm report of the deceased to ascertain," said Suvez Haque, Supretendent of Police, Pune.  "We will add sections of sexual assaults if the report shows any sign," Haque added.

The bodies of two Lonavla college students were recovered from forest area near Bhushi dam near Mumbai on Monday. The 24-year-old college student was from Songaon in Ahmednagar district while his girlfriend was a native of Pune‘s Otur. Both their bodies were completely stripped and had various injury marks. Their mouths were also gagged. They were identified on the basis of their college identity cards, and were students of Sinhagad Engineering College in Lonavla. They had failed to return to their accommodations. The boy had a rented house while the girl lived in the college hostel.

The Lonavala police has registered a case under section 302 of the Indian Penal Code against unknown people in the case and have separate teams to zero in on the assailants.
