Days after the gruesome murder of a seven-year-old, whose throat was slit in the Gurugram premises of Ryan International School, Ryan Pinto, the chief executive officer, and his parents, Augustine and Grace, on Monday moved the Bombay High Court, seeking anticipatory bail.

Senior advocate Niteen Pradhan filed the plea on behalf of the three, seeking an urgent hearing before a bench of Justice Ajey Gadkari, who will now take it up on Tuesday. They have also sought relief in the form of a transit anticipatory bail, which will allow them to appear before an appropriate court in Gurugram when seeking regular bail.

The plea states that though the incident was most unfortunate, the management cannot be held culpable, as sought by the protesting parents. It adds that the death of the child has caused deep pain and grief — not only to the parents and family of the child, but also to trustees, management, staff and students of the school — and that they moved the court only after reading media reports of the protesters seeking their arrest.

The petition also sought to defend the school's reputation by saying that in its four decades, this is the first such incident and that the accused was arrested only because of the CCTV installed in the school premises.

Four days ago, Pradhuman Thakur, a class II student, was found murdered in the toilet and a bus conductor was arrested for the crime. On Monday, heavy police bandobast was deployed outside the Kandivli headquarter of Ryan International School and a Haryana police department team reportedly visited the office to collect details. The Mumbai Police department, however, has said it had no knowledge of this visit. Dr Vinay Rathod, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Zone 12, said, "We have not been informed about the Haryana police visiting the school. The bandobast was kept for the safety of students inside the school."
