In a major development in the alleged rape and murder case of a 24-year-old physiotherapist in Vile Parle on December 6, the accused Debashish Dhara's DNA samples have matched with the samples that were collected from the crime scene as well as from the deceased.

"This is sufficient to prove him guilty in court. Our investigation is still on and we are now in the process of verifying all his claims," said Police Inspector, Vile Parle Police Station (Crime).

The Investigators have also claimed that the accused has confessed that on the night of the crime he was intoxicated and was out for doing something thrilling, "He committed the crime under the influence of alcohol and was not able to remember anything the next morning. He also described all the unnatural acts he did with the body," said the police officer who is privy to the investigation.

The Vile Parle police produced Dhara in Andheri's Magistrate court on Saturday, where the public prosecutor requested the magistrate to extend his police custody. The court extended Dhara's custody till January 8, rejecting his lawyer's request to remand him into judicial custody.

"He is innocent, he cannot do such brutal crime," Dhara's brother in law told DNA.

Sources from the police said that they will file the charge sheet in two weeks and would appeal to the government to run the case in fast track court.
