The Bombay Parsi Punchayet has sought an extension of three months from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) to begin waste processing in its 12 Charitable Residential Baugs (colonies) across Mumbai that fall under nine municipal wards, and amount to a total of 2,729 flats.

With the BMC making waste segregation and composting of wet waste at source mandatory for housing societies that generate more than 100 kg of waste, housing societies across the city have started approaching the civic body for additional time.

Vijay Balambar, deputy municipal commissioner (Solid Waste Management) said, “The Bombay Parsi Punchayet has sought three months extension which we have granted.” He added that like Parsi Punchayet, other societies should also come forward.

The Bombay Parsi Punchayet in its letter to BMC, which is with DNA, stated that they are in the process of finalising their requirements with various vendors to install suitable equipment as each colony has different requirements.
“They have given us details of their plan on waste management that they will begin in three months time,” added Balambar.
