In another bout of trouble for the Billabong High International School (BHIS), a few parents from it's Juhu branch have alleged that the school is demanding a part of the fees for the next academic year even as they ask for the leaving certificates of their children.

According to the parents, the school in an email instructed them to inform the management on or before February 28 if they wished to apply for a transfer or leaving certificate. However, as their children had not secured admission elsewhere by then, the parents informed the school only a week later.

"We cannot apply for the leaving certificate before we secure admission in another school and the schools do not complete their admissions in February. BHIS is now refusing to issue the leaving certificate unless we pay the fees for the first quarter," said a parent.

The fees for the first quarter is approximately Rs37,000 and it had to be paid before March 15.

"We had informed the school about our decision to shift out before March 15. In spite of that the parents are being asked to pay up. The school has also verbally told us that they will not give the report card of the current academic year. How can they expect us to pay fees for a period that the student is not going to attend," said the parent.

The parents will require the leaving certificate to complete the admission process at the new school.

Justifying the school's position, principal Padma Negi said, "We have to conduct our admissions. If the parents don't inform us about their intentions to change the school, their seats remain vacant throughout the year. The parents were informed about the dates through the school diary at the beginning of the year. We also sent the parents a circular regarding the same."

The school said it will provide leaving certificates to parents who informed the school before March 5.
