Parents seeking RTE admissions held a silent protest today against Billabong High School at Malad for denying admission to children under Right to Education (RTE) act this year. The Anudanit Shiksha Bachao Samiti (ASBS) under who organized the protest have also alleged that many RTE students were denied books and uniforms.

As per the Anudanit Shiksha Bachchao Samiti, the school denied admission to around 25 children from the economically weaker section. The organization claims that schools are increasingly not giving admissions under the RTE quota as they have not received the reimbursement fees of past admitted children from the state government.

Sudhir Paranjpe, Co-Convenor of ASBS, said, “Students who were allotted admission in this school in first round were denied admission. We have heard that the education department have disbursed the RTE reimbursement to all schools, but school is saying that they have not received. Hence we had to take a peaceful protest against the school.”

Additionally, the ASBS has already complained against the school to deputy director of school education as well as the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation education department.

Rajendra Ahire, Deputy Director of School Education, said, “I am on leave, hence I am unaware of this complaint. I will look into it once I resume the work.”
