It was a moment of pride as 764 cadets in khaki attire stepped out of their alma mater, the Maharashtra Police Academy in Nashik on August 12, to work as sub inspectors (PSI).
The cadets, including women, underwent a nine month rigorous training course, which included classroom and field training at the MPA. The cadets studied subjects like behavioural sciences, penology, criminology, law, information and modern technology, crime detection, as well as field training including rifle and revolver shooting, PT, games.
The parade began with the Nishan Toli carrying the national flag. The chief guest, Maharashtra MoS for home affairs, Satej Patil, was then awarded the guard of honour. The parade was led by cadet Nitin Kumar Naik.
Addressing the cadets on the occasion, minister Patil said, "The uniform that you wear is not only a matter of pride, but also a huge responsibility. While the soldiers protect the borders of the nation, it is your duty to protect the country and countrymen within, and to maintain law and order."
Patil said that in today's times, it is difficult to say as to what could lead to a problem of law and order, and it is therefore imperative for every police officer to be alert in performing their cuty.
"The job is demanding, but do not forget to give time to family," suggested the minister.
Director general of police, Maharashtra, Sanjeev Dayal and additional director general of police, Venkateshan, were also present. Director of MPA, Naval Bajaj. conveyed the oath of duty to the cadets.
The best performers of the batch were presented with awards on the occasion.
