Making it clear that Maharashtra would not go the Delhi way to allow odd and even number vehicles on roads, minister for transport Diwakar Raote on Friday said that it was the job of the government to provide adequate roads when the government issues permits and licenses for the vehicles.

While replying to a question during a press conference on Friday, Raote said that every state has different conditions and has to provide for the system suitable for the state. He said that his department gives clearances to vehicles and it is the job of the government to provide adequate roads for the vehicles.

Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejariwal has decided to allow odd and even numbered vehicles on roads on odd and even number dates. The implementation started in New Delhi from January 1, this year.

Replying to a question whether he would consider making odd and even numbered vehicles on the road on alternative days, Raote said that there is no need for the same in Maharashtra.

"The state government is providing for coastal road, metro and other transport systems and there is no need for repeating Delhi Government measures in the state," he said.
