The Other Backward Class (OBC) organisations are now trying to put their might together to protect their 27% reservation by organising rallies. First such OBC march is being planned in Nashik on October 3, home district of the champion of the cause – NCP leader Chhagan Bhujbal.

Reportedly, staunch followers of NCP leader Chhagan Bhujbal are planning to take out a march, with the participation of Other Backward Class (OBC) members, to preserve their reservation benefits.

In fact, the planning for the same has already started, and as many as 10,000 prominent OBC leaders met in this regard in Nashik two days ago.

The OBC march is being looked at as a fallout of last week's meeting between Bhujbal and minister for women and child development Pankaja Munde. Many eyebrows were raised when Munde called on ailing Bhujbal last week. She said Bhujbal was a fatherly figure and like an idol for even her own father – late Gopinath Munde. She had stated that since the stalwart OBC leader had been taken to the hospital, she visited him to enquire about his health.

Leaders from OBC organisations and followers of Bhujbal, including Jayant Jadhav and Bapu Bhujbal are planning the Nashik march on October 3. The march would immediately be organised in two more cities as well. The rallies would aim to air the community's view that Marathas should not be included in OBC category, and OBC reservation should remain unaltered.

Political analyst, Yuvak Kranti Dal founder and former legislator Kumar Saptarshi said the OBC march cannot counter Maratha marches. He said that though OBCs have always claimed to be big in numbers, they would now have to bring the community members on the road now. Saptarshi said especially after the disciplined Maratha marches, it had become more difficult for the OBC march organisers. "Will the OBC population come out in big numbers, especially when their leader Bhujbal is behind the bars?" he questioned.

An OBC leader, on the condition of anonymity, denied that the proposed march was to counter Maratha marches. He said OBCs would put across their demands and that has nothing to do with the Maratha community as such.
