Now, even school principals will be able to pursue a Masters in Business Administration (MBA). For the first time in India, an MBA in Educational Management and Leadership programme for school principals has been launched.
Minister of state for human resource development Shashi Tharoor, the chief guest at the National Conference for School Principals, formally launched India’s first MBA programme for school principals in Delhi. Uttarakhand Technical University (UTU), in collaboration with SelaQui Institute of Management, will offer this programme.

Principals must thus have the innate ability to envision the road ahead, bring about alignments to lead and manage change.”
Besides this MBA programme, UTU will offer diploma and certificate variants of the programme in a convenient mode to suit working teachers and principals. The programme is designed to prepare principals for 21st century schools.
It is designed to address the four major areas of school management and leadership, such as personal effectiveness, instructional leadership, institutional management and strategic leadership. Candidates successfully completing this programme can look forward to advancing their careers towards school principal-ship.
Branch helps in probes
One might soon study forensic odontology in India itself. In a recent workshop, the Dental Council of India along with Government Dental College, Mumbai, suggested starting a post graduate course in forensic odontology.
If everything goes as per the plan, the course will start from next year in medical colleges across the country. Forensic odontology helps get evidence in criminal cases like sexual assault, murder and child abuse that includes bite marks. Currently, the forensic medicine department helps the police investigate a case while in other countries, those who have a masters in forensic odontology do the work.
“It was decided to start a PG course which is useful for investigating a case. In case of a death of an unidentified person, forensic odontologists attend the post-mortem procedure, take pictures, dental impression and x-ray of the remains. They identify the remains by comparing these with those of missing persons,” said Dr Mansingh Pawar, dean, Government Dental College.
Doctors will initially take help from the faculty from oral diagnosis medicine and the radiology department to teach the subject, he added.
Dr Shailesh Mohite, head of the forensic medicine department, Nair Hospital, said, “The expertise will be useful if there are bite marks on a body, and can be a major factor leading to a conviction,” he said.
This kind of expertise had a huge demand abroad, especially in legal proceedings, said Dr Ashok Dhoble, secretary, Indian Dental Association.
