After over 80,000 TYBcom students found their exam listed a month ahead of the date mentioned in the timetable, Mumbai University on Thursday issued a circular reassuring them that there was no change in dates.

Hall tickets downloaded by several students of Third Year Bachelor of Commerce mentioned the exam date for Financial Accounting and Auditing: Paper V – Financial Accounting as October 21. However, the timetable issued by Mumbai University had said the exam for the said paper will be held on November 23.

The hall tickets were downloaded by students a couple of days ago and finding the exam only a day away, panicked students approached Yuva Sena activist Sainath Durge. He contacted the varsity vice chancellor Sanjay Deshmukh, following which the varsity has now issued a circular clearing confusion over exam dates.

The varsity has blamed the goof-up on students who downloaded the hall tickets before the MU instructions. Colleges have also been asked to inform their students accordingly. Exams for TYBcom are set to begin on October 25.

University registrar MA Khan said the Controller of Examination has sought to know from Maharashtra Knowledge Corporation Ltd how they uploaded wrong hall tickets. MKCL is entrusted with exam-related content on the MU website. "MKCL may have uploaded the hall tickets without verifying with the examination department, and the students have downloaded those. There is no change in exam timetable. We have asked the MKCL to explain the goof-up," Khan said.

Durge said it was unfortunate the varsity was not accepting mistake and was passing the buck.
