As election campaigning is on in full swing, politicians are busy visiting their constituencies to let people know their agenda. They are handing out bills, making speeches to explain their party's agenda if voted to power. However, Niranjan Davkhare of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) is using street plays to tell people his political manifesto. The street play is enacted by a group of youngsters.

While its annoying to see political hoardings across the city, it is equally irritating to hear various politicians make empty promises during the current legislative assembly (LA) campaigns. To cut through this boring affair of political speeches, Davkhare has resorted to street plays to enlighten Thanekars about what he wants to do for the development of Thane.

Fighting for the seat of Thane city, Davkhare has hired a troupe of about 30 professional street play artists who can be seen wearing T-shirts with slogan Thane First. "These are young professionals and they will be performing plays telling people that whenever there are talks and opportunities for development, Thane should be placed first," says Davkhare.

The plays which will be performed by these artists in various parts of the city will also try to depict how Thane city can be developed to achieve this goal. "We want Thane city to be the most developed city in Maharashtra. We want it to be first in every progressive step," he adds.

Talking about his development plans, this young leader says that he wants to build a 200 meter track for runners at Dadoji Kondev stadium. "There should also be a multi-stadium at Ghodbunder Road and toilets on the upper deck of STATIS at Thane station. I also want to build a cultural center where senior citizens can educate children. This proposed center at GB Road will be a boon to double income couples whose children can be left with the seniors who will educate the kids and give them proper sanskars. I also want affordable education and housing in the city," he says.

Niranjan Davkhar, son of Vasant Davkhare, has won Konkan Graduate constituency election in 2012.
