The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) in the new draft Development Plan 2014-2034 has vacated several reservations for smoother infrastructure development in the city, including removal of the No Development Zone (NDZ) from Aarey Colony for a Metro carshed and zoo, vacating reservations on old building lands, reservation of roads on salt pan land and changes in development on mill land.

The civic body has come up with several reservations in the city to facilitate infrastructure development in the city for the next 20 years. These are included in the revised draft DP, which is under the process of corrections following severe criticism from all sections. The error-filled draft had grave mistakes, including misrepresentation of structures and wrong reservations.

The BMC is supposed to send the final draft by May 30. For that, the civic administration has to table the DP on the floor of the general body of the BMC by this month-end or first week of May. Having finished correction of reservations in the city, BMC officials said the draft will be uploaded on the civic website soon.

As per the revised draft DP, all reservations on the land of existing buildings have been deleted. This is expected to make redevelopment of buildings faster and smoother.

In Aarey, the NDZ has been deleted as a special case.

The salt pan land, which comes under the Centre, will have reservation for roads and basic civic amenities. This will make way for road construction to decongest traffic in the city. Reservation on mill lands will be omitted for the sake of development, which will boost redevelopment projects.

Slums, which are on the land for 'house for dishoused' can go ahead with SRA schemes and redevelopment. Lands, which are open and reserved for 'house for dishoused' will be used for affordable housing schemes.
