Class X textbooks as per the revised syllabus are likely to come out only by April 2018, a development making several students and parents anxious.

In 2017, a decision was taken to revise the syllabus for classes IX and X. While the syllabus of class IX was revised the same year, class X is supposed to be revised from the coming academic year which begins in June 2018. With class IX textbooks coming into the market nearly two months after the academic year began, parents now fear a similar delay in getting class X books.

"Class X exams are considered to be extremely important as they are conducted by the C. With increasing competition, students start preparing for the boards from April after their class IX exams are over. However, with no word on when the new textbooks will be out, we are scared that students might not get the books in time," said Amruta Dighe, a city-based parent.

Shantanu Mehta, who runs a private coaching class in Malad, said "Classes for class X begin from April-May. With the new syllabus even teachers have to study the books in advance and it's thus important to have them in the markets early."

A senior official from the state education department said, "We have done all the preparation to ensure that the books reach markets well before the beginning of the academic year. Students would get them by the first week of April."
