Disgruntled by the reducing remuneration, drivers of cab aggregators have decided to launch their own app to run operations in Mumbai.

The mobile aggregator will be called Sahyadri Smart Safe Private Ltd (S3) and it will include drivers from Mumbai. It is likely to go live by April.

Over the past few days they have been finalising the funding pattern, conducting trials of the app and incentives to appeal to fellow drivers.

"We are conducting trials of this app and will apply for a license with the Transport department in the coming week," said Praful Shinde, member, Action Committee of Maharashtra, comprising drivers of Ola and Uber.

Sources in the RTO said that this seems doable as the Maharashtra City Taxi Rules, 2017, allows people to introduce new companies under the 'App-Based City Taxi Permit'. Committee members claim that around 15,000 drivers – operating on behalf of Uber and Ola – are ready to join this new S3 app.

It will give access to cameras on the dashboard and rear of the vehicle as a safety measure. There will be an SOS button for female commuters, a provision to give a bill at the end of the journey, details of the driver, GPS in both the app and the cab, along with speed governors.

The fares will be as suggested by the Khatua Committee, which, as of now, has been opposed to mobile aggregators. The proposed fares would start from Rs 16 as base fare and go up to Rs 20, depending on the model of the car. There would not be any surge pricing.

"After three complaints against a driver, we will rusticate the person from our circuit," added Shinde. The drivers will also be made to sign a one-year contract.
