Sant Nirankari Mandal, which had been organising annual samagam at Patni ground in Airoli for the last 11 years has this year changed its venue. The samagam will be held between January 24 and 26.

Now, they will be holding the three-day samagam at Cidco ground in sectors 28 and 29 of Kharghar. The reason behind the changing the venue this time is that the old ground has left space due to the ongoing constructions works around the ground. So, it won’t be able to accommodate the increasing number of visitors on all the days.

Nirankari samagam is expected to received more than 3.25 lakh visitors this year, which means 20% more than last year. “Every year, we see a sharp rise in the number of visitors. And so the venue has been changed to avoid inconvenience to them,” says Pravin Chhabra, media coordinator of the mandal.

Chhabra has denied any other reason behind the change in the venue. It is recalled that in March 2013, there was a stampede-like situation had arisen during the self-claimed godman Asaram Bapu’s Holi function.

Chhabra claims that the City and Industrial Development Corporation’s ground in Kharghar is very spacious and visitors will not face any problem. “Our organising committee has visited the new venue and have assured that the ground is sufficient to accommodate visitors,” adds Chhabra.

Meanwhile, the Nirankari mandal will kick-off the ground sewa for the Maharashtra’s 47th annual Nirankari Sant Samagam on Sunday at Cidco ground in Kharghar.

The inauguration of the ground sewa will be marked by a bike and cycle rally comprising around 200 young Nirankari devotee bikers from Belapur. The rally will start at 8.30am on Sunday morning and going all the way through Sion-Panvel highway. They will join 50 women Nirankari devotees cyclists at Hiranandani circle in Kharghar.

“In Kharghar, they will merge and then they will proceed to the ground where thousands of devotees will be waiting to start cleaning work of the ground,” Chhabra concluded.
