Finance minister Sudhir Mungantiwar on Wednesday informed mediapersons that the Prime Minister's Office has conveyed that he would be visiting Mumbai on October 11 to lay the foundation stone of the Indu mill memorial.
It has been made official that Prime Minister Narendra Modi would be gracing the groundbreaking ceremony for the proposed Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar memorial at Indu Mill land in Dadar on October 11. Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis has finalised architectural firm Shashi Prabhu and Associates for carrying out the memorial project.

The firm has submitted the plan for the memorial at a cost of Rs 425 crore. The state Cabinet was informed by chief minister Fadnavis on Wednesday that he has finalised Shashi Prabhu and Associate's design for the project.
The Fadnavis government had invited bids for the proposed Indu Mill memorial and 10 bidders had participated. After shortlisting, two firms including Shashi Prabhu Associates and French firm Jakob and MacForlane were invited to make presentations before the state Cabinet on August 25. After the presentations, chief minister Devendra Fadnavis took the final call. Accordingly, the CM decided to give the project to Shahsi Prabhu Associates, said Mungantiwar.
The proposed memorial would have a 40-feet-tall full-size statue of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar along with a big stupa with 24 ribs denoting Dhammachakra. It would have an interactive library as well as light and sound show, meditation hall, parking with a capacity of 400 four-wheelers. Prabhu, who is a well-known architect, assured the government that the proposed memorial would be designed in such a way that green spaces would be abundantly available and 2 existing ponds as well as 200 trees would not be affected with the construction of around 23,300 square metres at a cost of Rs 425 crore.
