Firing a salvo at his own party leaders in the state, former chief minister and senior Congress leader Narayan Rane on Friday said the leader of opposition in the state assembly has failed to perform and was doing what the government wanted.

Addressing the media during a programme organised by the Mumbai Marathi Patrakar Sangh, Rane said had the party high command taken cognisance of his resentment against the party leadership, Congress would not have been in opposition.

Taking Radhakrishna Vikhe-Patil heads on, but without naming him, Rane said, "The Congress should not allow the state assembly to function on the issue of tainted ministers. There are scams and issues coming out everyday, including bogus degree of education minister Vinod Tawde, the chikki scam and what not. Congress MLAs have failed to rake up all these issues. If I would have been there in the House, I would not have allowed the House to transact any business."

He said protesting on the steps outside Vidhan Bhavan was futile and that the Congress should instead have protested inside the House from Day 1 of the monsoon session. He added that there was no dearth of issues (to rake up), including loan waiver, scams as well as growing crimes, particularly those against women and children.

Rane alleged that Vikhe-Patil was conducting himself as if he was hand in glove with the government.

Rane criticised prime minister Narendra Modi for his autocratic style of functioning and said the Maharashtra chief minister was following in his footsteps. The CM was silent on the Centre's attempts to reduce the importance of Maharashtra by moving important offices of the union government out of Maharashtra and Mumbai, he said.

Rane added that he would undertake a Maharashtra tour under which he would visit Nagpur in the first week of August and tell the people there how their CM has failed to deliver in the last eight months.

Rane takes on Uddhav, Sena
Calling Shiv Sena president Uddhav Thackeray a confused leader, Narayan Rane said the so-called no-holds-barred interview published in Saamna explains it all. Rane said there is contradiction in what Uddhav said yesterday and today in the interview. He questioned what was stopping Uddhav from leaving the government, considering how the Sena has been complaining through its mouthpiece about it being ignored by the BJP.
