Mumbai: Tragedy averted as major fire at Kandivali's Hiranandani tower brought under control

Eight fire engines and 6 water tankers were rushed to the spot.

A major tragedy was averted on SV Road in Kandivli, near Poisar Bus Depot, on Thursday. No one was staying in the under-renovation house when the 32nd floor of Hiranandani Heritage Towers caught on fire.

Since it is also the last day of Ganesh Visarjan, even labourers were not at work. It is being said that the owner was slated to do housewarming on Dussehra before permanently shifting to the flat. The last touch-up of interiors was being done.

According to the fire brigade, a Level II fire call was received at the fire station at 12.58 pm and fire engines reached the spot at 1.08 pm. However, when the fire personnel saw the quantum of fire the call was upgraded to Level III fire.

Eight fire engines and 6 water tankers along with an ambulance were rushed to the spot.

Thirty-two floors of the Hiranandani Heritage Tower, two basements, ground floor plus podium of the residential building was vacated by the fire brigade officials.

Fire official confirmed that the fire was confined to flats on the 32nd floor was brought under control.
