A 17-year-old was allegedly stabbed to death outside a college at Bhandup on Thursday. The police have picked up three teenagers in connection with the incident.

Students from another college had an altercation with Sushilkumar Verma a few days ago regarding a girl studying in his college, say police sources. They are probing whether this is the reason behind the attack.

Verma, a resident of Tembi Pada in Bhandup (W), studied in Class XII (Science) in Shrimati Ramkali Sanman Singh College. His father works in Central Railway and he has three siblings, including a sister. According to police, the incident took in the afternoon.

Verma stepped out of the college in the afternoon, when three persons, with handkerchiefs covering their faces, pounced on him and dragged him about 100 meters away. Then, one person stabbed him in the chest and stomach.

"They then fled on a motorcycle," said an officer from Bhandup police station. Other students found Verma lying in a pool of blood and rushed him to a hospital in Mulund, where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.

"We have registered a case of murder and have detained three persons for questioning," said Shrinivas Panhale, Senior Police Inspector of Bhandup Police Station, adding, "We are yet to ascertain the motive behind the crime."
