The Tardeo Police on Sunday confirmed that 16-year-old Priyanka Kothari's death was not due to an accidental fall. The police confirmed that she had committed suicide by jumping off from the 23rd floor of her duplex apartment at The Imperial building at Tardeo. The police have not yet found Kothari's mobile phone, which is essential to ascertain what could have driven her to end her life.

On Monday the police would visit Kothari's school to get details about her academic records. As of now, the police have not been able to establish the motive which led Kothari to commit suicide.

According to the police, on Friday, Kothari had gone for a party organised by her friends from school at Peddar Road and had started from home at around 8.30 pm. She returned home at around 11.40 pm. Shobha, who worked as their maid opened the door and Kothari headed to her room right away. The teenager's mother and younger brother were at home but, were asleep.

Kothari was found lying in a pool of blood near the dog's area of the building on Saturday at around 1.30 am. An on-duty security guard found her body and alerted the police control room. The police then rushed to the spot and took the girl to Nair hospital where she was declared dead before admission.

The police then made enquiries with the residents of the building and Kothari's family identified her body.

"The family is not in the condition to speak about the incident as of now. We would question all those who were present at the party to know if something happened there that drove Kothari to take such an extreme step. The flats in the building have their own CCTV network. In the flats, the halls have CCTVs which can be accessed by the family members. We would seek access to CCTVs inside Kothari's flat, lift and the entrance to the building to know who all had accompanied the teenager when she returned home," said an officer from Tardeo Police station.

Kothari, a class 10 student, was staying with her family and is survived by her father Amrish, a famous diamond merchant and gold trader, her mother and a younger brother. The family had also hired two full-time servants who worked and stayed in the duplex apartment.
