Mumbai: Six watches worth Rs 1.27 crore stolen from banker's home

Gamdevi Police are on the lookout for an unknown person who allegedly committed theft of six wrist watches worth Rs 1.27 crore in total, from the Peddar Road residence of a top banker.

Complainant in the case is Romesh Satpal Sobti, 67, who resides in flats 20 and 30 of 33-South Building at Peddar Road.

According to the police, the incident occurred between June 11 and June 20, when Sobti was away from home. "As per Sobti's complaint, when he returned home, he realised that six expensive wrist watches were missing from the cupboard of his bedroom. The total cost of the watches is Rs 1.27 crore," said an officer from Gamdevi Police Station.

He added, Sobti first searched for watches at his residence and once he was sure that a theft had taken place, he approached the police on Saturday. "Some renovation work was going on in the building and bamboo pillars were being used. There is a high possibility that some labour could be involved in the theft. We are scanning CCTV footages too for leads," said the officer.

"We have registered a case of theft under section 380 of the Indian Penal Code and are probing from all angles," confirmed Senior Police Inspector Gokulsingh Patil from Gamdevi Police Station.
