A day after the violence triggered in the city, Mumbai police have so far registered over 36 cases and arrested over 75 persons for rioting and arson in the past two days. The police are scrutinising CCTV footage to identify the miscreants.
Of the total 75 arrests made in Mumbai, 56 were arrested in Chembur. Of these 75, 17 are juveniles. The police have registered as many as 14 cases against miscreants. Of the total cases registered in Chembur area, eight are cases against public servants who deterred from their duties. "All the accused were produced in the court and have been sent to judicial custody. We are still identifying more accused involved in violence," said Shahaji Umap, Deputy Commissioner of Police, (Zone 6)
While in Powai and Sakinaka where the protesters had become violent and had attacked police personnel and the public, 18 persons have been arrested and four cases have been registered. "We have started our process of identifying the more accused and scrutinizing the CCTV footage of the area," said ND Reddy, Deputy Commissioner of Police(Zone 10).
"We had detained over 300 people and a process of registering FIRs and arresting miscreant is on at other police stations as well," said Sachin Patil, Mumbai Police Spokesperson and Deputy Commissioner of Police.
