A nine-year-old girl died after a speeding tempo rammed into four school-going children in Mumbai’s Malad on Tuesday morning.  Three others, who are siblings, are battling for their lives.

The victim has been identified as Muksan Memon.

According to Malvani police, the incident took place on Tuesday morning around 8am when Muskan and her three friends aged between 9 and 13 were walking on Marve road – a narrow stretch when the speeding tempo knocked them down. The police said that the driver had lost control of the vehicle and rammed into a parked auto rickshaw before ramming the children.

"While Memon died on the spot, her friends, Neha, Bhupendra, and Kamal Manali, who are siblings have sustained serious injuries. We have registered a case in Malvani police station and we are on the lookout for the tempo driver who fled from the spot," Deepak Deoraj, a police official told DNA.

"All of them are residents of Malvani. Two children are critical, while other one is out of danger," said another police officer from Malvani police station.
