The State Medical Education Minister Jitendra Awhad issued show cause notice to Maharashtra Medical Council (MMC) president Dr Kishor Taori alleging misuse of power.

While the MMC president plans to take legal help, the doctors' body came out in support of him and expressed shock at the minister's decision.

The MMC is a quasi-judicial body which governs the quality of medical education and ethics. The minister issued a show cause notice asking Dr Taori, "Why he should not be dismissed," following charges of misuse of post.

The Indian Medical Association (IMA) and seven other organizations found the order passed by the Minister for Medical Education Jitendra Awhad arbitrary, illegal and malicious and decided to support Dr Taori.

Dr Jayesh Lele, the secretary of IMA, said, "It wasn't a correct method. The decision was shocking and we are in support of Dr Taori."

The IMA has also written a letter to the Chief Minister requesting him to look into the matter. Dr Taori wasn't available for the comment.

Dr Taori was appointed as the MMC President in 2009 and he is head of Radiology Department at the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH in Nagpur).
