In the wake of a dwindling attendance in the municipal schools and widespread criticism on the poor quality of education, the education committee of the BMC conducted a programme to boost the morals of the principals of civic schools.

As many as 850 principals from civic schools between Dahisar to Mulund, attended the lecture along with officials from the education department where chairman of education committee Vinod Shelar told the principals that team work is needed to improve the quality of schools. "We must work in teams to improve the quality of civic schools," Shelar said.

He also emphasised on the need to update oneself in accordance with the present times. "When a municipal school is known by its name, it means that the principal has done substantial work in the school," Shelar said.

Several activists claim that most principals who are about to retire in a few months, lose interest in the day to day functioning of the school.

"It's a good initiative to motivate the principals as they are the ones responsible for the day to day affairs of the school. However, such programmes need to be periodically conducted so that they actually make a difference," an activist said.
