Within 24 hours after getting a favourable judgement in the Mumbai Metro fare litigation filed by the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA), the Reliance Infrastructure (RInfra) led Mumbai Metro One Private Limited (MMOPL) has hiked the metro fares to its wanting.
Starting from the first service of Friday, January 9, the new fares of Rs 10-20-30-40 have come into force. Till yesterday the fares were Rs 10-15-20.
On the fare hike, an MMOPL spokesperson said, "After the decision of Honourable Bombay High Court, MMOPL has implemented its initial fare. It will help MMOPL to provide sustainable transport service to city of Mumbai."
Therefore, MMOPL claims that the fare that has come into effect from Friday are the 'initial fares', whereas the ones that were being charged for the last six months were 'promotional fares'.
