Mumbai: Man held for giving hoax job assurances

After a hunt of over two months, the Powai Police have arrested a 37-year-old man for allegedly duping youth by giving them hoax assurances of jobs and claiming money to get the work done on an immediate basis. The accused arrested have been identified as Nasir Hussain Moinuddin Khan and based on a complaint lodged against him with the Powai Police by two girls, cops had intensified the search to nab Khan who went absconding after duping the complainant duo of Rs two lakh in total.

According to the police, the complainant duo identified as Fatima Shaikh (18) and Nikita Varma (18) had alleged that after passing out their higher secondary examinations this year, they both were searching for a job to start earning. For the same, the duo then downloaded Quick application on mobile to hunt down jobs suiting their profiles and academic qualifications. After some time, the duo were approached by Khan who introduced himself as a senior Human Resources (HR) manager at a private airline. Khan claimed that the airline had opened up some vacancies for hiring and they would prefer recruiting young pass out students. During the course of conversation, Khan later provided the duo with fake recruitment letters under the name of the private airline which claimed that the girls have been hired and they can join soon.

Later Khan demanded Rs 1 lakh from each girl saying that paying the money was crucial for getting the job and on receiving the money, Khan went absconding.

"The girls tried to reach out to the accused via call but he did not turn up and ran away with the money. On Saturday, Khan was arrested and he has been sent to police custody by the court. We need to investigate the account of the accused of the mobile application he used for the trap, how many victims he duped, how he managed to create fake joining letters and involvement of other accomplice in the case if any." said a police officer of Powai police station.
