A 42-year-old Jogeshwari resident allegedly attacked his wife and his mother-in-law with a sharp knife after he received a life threat on phone and suspecting it to be from the duo, he confronted them, leading to a brutal attack inside their Kalyan residence.

The man has been arrested by the Mahatma Phule police and has been remanded into custody for seven days.

According to the police, accused Deepak Satpute lived in Jogeshwari, while his wife, Surekha, 40, lived with her mother Susheela at their Kalyan residence in Rambaug area. Both, husband and wife, were living separately since the past six months due to family issues and decided to part ways on a bitter note, which did not go down well with the accused.

"After he received life threat calls, the accused suspected that this might be done by his wife and mother-in-law. So, he reached their residence and got into a verbal brawl, in which injured the duo with a sharp knife," said a police official from the Mahatma Phule police station.

The accused slashed the face, neck and waist of the two and they were rushed to a hospital. The police have recorded their statement and arrested him.

A case under sections 307 (attempt to murder), 341 (wrongful restraint), 326 (causing grievous hurt with weapon) and 324 (causing grievous hurt) of the Indian Penal Code has been registered.

"When we produced the accused at the Kalyan court, he was remanded to police custody for seven days," said DN Pandhare, senior inspector.
