Several parts of the state, including Mumbai, were hit by heavy rainfall on Saturday, affecting both road as well as rail commute. Forty-year-old Usha Sawant lost her life due to electrocution and a five-year-old child was injured in the same incident in Mankhurd. A warning for heavy rainfall has been issued till Wednesday.

Rain disrupted Central Railway services and also paralysed traffic on Mumbai-Goa highway for seven hours. Tracks between Kalyan and Badlapur were waterlogged and services were delayed by 10 to 15 minutes on Central Railway, Harbour line and the Trans Harbour line. "Some trains had to be partially cancelled between 10.40 am and 11.30 pm due water overflowing from the Ulhas river," a CR official said.

"Services were running as per usual between CSMT-Kalyan and Badlapur-Karjat," he added. Western Railway (WR) also experienced delays.

However, Versova-Andheri-Ghatkopar Metro-1 services were not impacted. Air traffic movement was nearly normal, with a delay of around five to 20 minutes due to operational reasons.

Till 8.30 pm, Colaba received 11.6 mm of rainfall while Santacruz recorded around 36mm of rainfall. The Indian Metrological Department has issued warning for extremely heavy rains at isolated places in Raigad, Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg, and heavy to very heavy rains at isolated placed in Palghar, Thane and Mumbai till Wednesday.

Skymet, a private weather forecasting agency, stated that an off-shore trough is running from the coast of south Gujarat to Kerala across Maharashtra, which will cause moderate to heavy rains, with few extremely heavy showers along the west coast. Rainfall activity will increase over Marathwada and north-central Maharashtra. Vidarbha and parts of Marathwada may also witness heavy spells in the next 24 hours.
