When a group of collegians entered Goregaon's Oberoi Mall, what caught their attention immediately were not the glitzy stores but the lord of good beginnings — dna Eco Ganesha 2015. dna is celebrating the festival by having eco-friendly idols, for the sixth year in a row, to create awareness and encourage people to opt for environment-friendly celebrations.

The idols have been placed in five malls of the city — Fun Republic (Andheri West), Oberoi Mall (Goregaon East), R City (Ghatkopar West), R Mall (Thane) and R Mall (Mulund). To make sure that the celebration and awareness initiative strike the right note, various programmes, including several workshops, have been organised.

Clicking selfies with the idols was the biggest hit with visitors. Amey Yerunkar (20), who clicked one at Oberoi Mall, said, "It is beautiful to see eco-Ganpati Bappa... our whole group has taken selfies. I will tell all my peers to go for eco-friendly celebrations at their homes and societies."

Yerunkar was not the only one bit by the selfie bug. Forty-year-old Nitin Afandkar, while seeking Bappa's blessings at the mall, was seen taking a selfie with his wife. "As everyone has a habit of taking selfies these days, this is the best place to take one as it will encourage others to go for eco-Ganpati too, making them more responsible towards the environment."

Another visitor, Purnima Roy (43) said, "The immersion of clay Ganpati will help the city, as non eco-friendly Ganpatis kill water animals and are harmful for citizens too."

At Fun Republic mall, the scene was no different. Pawanpreet Kaur (21), who had come there to watch a movie, said, "The decoration is completely mesmerising; the theme defines our city — the traffic, people and everything in and around Mumbai."

Some, like Shamika Nair (35), said one should not look at ecology alone, but also consider the economy. "At the end of the day, you end up spending money cleaning places that can be avoided," Nair added.
