One of the accused in the Mumbai gang-rape case has been sent to police custody till August 30.
Rapists threatened to kill photojournalist
According to an NDTV report on Saturday, the accused held a broken beer bottle over the victim’s neck and threatened to kill her if she moved.
The report said that the victim told the Mumbai police that the rapists clicked photographs of her after the assault and threatened to release them in public if she dared to disclose their identities.
Puducherry scribes, photographers condemn woman's gang-rape
Journalists and photographers in Puducherry on Saturday staged a demonstration condemning the gangrape of the 23-year-old photojournalist in Mumbai.
Shouting slogans, they demanded strong action against the guilty.
They also said journalists should be ensured protection so that they would be able to discharge their duty in a free and fair manner.
Puducherry Journalists Association President MP Mathimaharaja led the demonstration.

Second accused confesses to crime

Jammu journalists condemn Mumbai gang-rape
Local journalists Saturday carried out a peaceful protest in the state's winter capital Jammu against the rape of a fellow-journalist in Mumbai.
Jammu journalists of both the electronic and the print media held a meeting at Jammu Press Club on Saturday morning to condemn the rape of the fellow photojournalist by five men in an abandoned mill compound in central Mumbai.
Members of the fraternity also staged a peaceful protest against the crime, carrying placards. The journalists demanded stringent punishment to those involved in the brutal act.
Gang-rape victim wants life imprisonment for rapists
According to a Times of India report, the 23-year-old photojournalist wants life imprisonment for all the perpetrators.
“They should be punished severely as they have ruined my life,” the gangrape survivor told her mother from the hospital bed, reported ToI.

Sonia Gandhi 'saddned' and 'pained'
UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi has expressed shock over the brutal gangrape of the photojournalist in Mumbai.
"I am saddened and pained over the gangrape of a photojournalist in Mumbai," she said.
The Congress president was speaking at the inauguration of the National Media Centre in New Delhi.
RR Patil's statement sparks war of words
Even as the police are struggling to nail the the three absconding accused in the Mumbai gang-rape case, a war of words has broken out between Home Minister RR Patil and Milind Deora.
According to TV reports, Patil had issued a statement saying that women journalists going to isolated places will be accompanied by policemen.
Taking exception to Patil's statement, Deora told CNN-IBN that he should concentrate on improving the policing first.
* Doctors to decide later on Saturday whether the girl is fit to be discharged. The young scribe, who resides in western suburbs, has been admitted to Jaslok Hospital and is said to be "composed and stable". Preliminary reports suggested that she sustained multiple internal injuries.
"We cannot give you any further information keeping in mind patient confidentiality," Dr Tarang Gianchandani, acting CEO and Director (Medical Services) of Jaslok had said on Friday. "We are doing the needful... she is under strict observation."

Grim reminder of Delhi gang-rape
The victim, an intern with an English magazine was gangraped allegedly by five men on Thursday evening when she and her male colleague went to the deserted Shakti Mills compound in Lower Parel area for taking photographs in connection with a story on city chawls.
The five accused, whose sketches were released yesterday, tied up the victim's friend and raped the woman in a chilling reminder of the December gangrape in Delhi.
Second accused held from video parlour
The investigation into the gang-rape of a woman photojournalist two days ago in Mumbai inched ahead as police nabbed another of the four absconding accused, taking the total arrests to two so far, an official said on Saturday.
Accused Vijay Jadhav was picked up in the wee hours by the Crime branch from a video parlour in the congested Madanpura area of south central Mumbai, an official of the NM Joshi Marg Police, which is spearheading the probe, said.
On Friday, an unemployed youth from south Mumbai identified as Chand Babu Sattat Shaikh alias Mohammed Abdul (19), was arrested in the case. He had named all the four co-accused out of which three— Qasim Bengali, Saleem and Ashfaq — are still at large.
Both the men now arrested will be produced before the Bhoiwada Magistrate Court Saturday afternoon.
The second absconding accused had been holed up in the Madanpura area since Thursday night, after the gang-rape of the intern, who was at work shooting the deserted Shakti Mills Compound, near Mahalaxmi railway station. The incident left the nation stunned.
Home Minister RR Patil said on Friday that the case would be handled by a fast track court to ensure speedy justice to the victim.
Describing the incident as "horrific", Mumbai Police Commissioner Satyapal Singh assured media people on Friday that all the remaining accused would soon be arrested.
Singh on Friday said police was trying to gather "clinching evidence" to ensure that the culprits get maximum punishment for the "shocking crime".
Mumbai Police launch massive hunt for gang-rape accused
In one of the biggest manhunts launched in the city, 20 teams of local police and Crime Branch personnel have been formed to nab the remaining three absconders.
Based on accurate descriptions by the victim and her male colleague who was with her just before the crime occurred, police released sketches of the accused which have been circulated to all police stations in the city and surrounding areas.
According to Singh, more than 20 teams, including 10 from the elite Crime Branch, have been formed to track down the perpetrators amid mounting public pressure and anger.
Journalists demand steps to assure security
Condemning the assault, journalists took to streets to lodge protest. Scribes from various streams, sporting black bands on their arms and mouths, gathered in large numbers at Hutatma Chowk in south Mumbai yesterday demanding that at all necessary steps be taken to ensure that safety and security of journalists and common citizens is not compromised.

RR Patil personally supervising Mumbai gang-rape case probe
Under fire from the opposition in the wake of gang-rape of a 23-year-old photojournalist, Maharashtra Home Minister RR Patil is personally supervising the probe into the case round the clock.
Patil visited the NM Joshi Marg police station in the wee hours to review the progress made in the investigations of this case, a police official said.
Third accused arrested, hunt on for two others
Mumbai police tonight arrested the third accused in connection with the gang rape of 23-year-old photojournalist, as hunt for the other two absconding accused continued for the second day today amid a massive public outrage.
The third accused, identified as Siraj Rehman, about 25-years-old, was nabbed from Mumbra area late in the evening, police sources said.
He is likely to be produced before a magistrate tomorrow.
Earlier, Vijay Jadhav was arrested in the wee hours from Madanpura area by the elite Crime Branch personnel, who too have been engaged in the search for the culprits.
"The probe is heading in the right direction and we hope to arrest all other absconding accused soon," city Police Commissioner Satyapal Singh said.
He said the investigators had gathered "all the evidence against the accused and we will file a comprehensive charge sheet soon."
Jadhav and Chand Babu Sattar Shaikh alias Mohammed Abdul, who was arrested yesterday, were produced before the Bhoiwada holiday court at Dadar which remanded them in police custody till August 30.
There were protests outside the court premises by Shiv Sainiks and BJP activists who shouted slogans against the accused.
Several women's organisations took out a morchas.
